Frequently Wondered Questions
-
Private sauna sessions (1–2 people), private group sessions (up to 6), and shared sauna sessions (open to the public, up to 5 people per session).
All sauna sessions are designed to allow you to move through heat, cold, and rest — unhurried, and at your body’s own pace.
-
For shared sauna sessions, a swimsuit or sauna wear is required. (Many people prefer natural fibers like cotton or merino wool, which tend to feel more comfortable /breathable in the heat.)
For private sauna sessions, what you wear inside the sauna is entirely up to you — but a robe, towel, or swimsuit is required in outdoor areas.
-
A water bottle (we have water to refill).
Also, shoes that are easy to slip on and off — flip flops, slides, or clogs work great, since the deck area around the cold plunge may be wet.
In winter, you may like to wear boots. Really, any footwear that’s easy to slip on and off.

Great question! A few big differences:
Wood-fired, not electric. Ours is a traditional wood-fired Finnish sauna, which burns hotter and creates a different kind of heat — often described as softer and more enveloping than the dry, harsher heat of an electric or infrared unit.
Löyly. In a wood-fired sauna, you can pour water over the hot stones (called löyly) to create steam and humidity — this is core to the authentic Finnish sauna experience and isn’t really possible the same way with infrared.
Finger Lakes Sauna is an experience, not just a workout add-on. Gym saunas are often small, shared with strangers mid-workout, and not really designed for lingering.
Ours is a dedicated space and time — meant for slowing down, not squeezing in before you shower and leave.Lastly, cold plunge/contrast therapy pairs with the heat for the full “heat, cold, rest” cycle, which is a different intention than a quick gym sauna sit.

Absolutely. Sauna doesn’t require you to “know how” to relax — the heat and cold naturally guide your nervous system through the process. Many people find that they relax more easily here than they expect to, simply because the environment (and the rhythm of heat, cold, and rest) does a lot of the work for you.
You don’t need to meditate, clear your mind, or do anything “right.” Just breathe, notice how your body feels, and let the experience unfold at its own pace.
-
We understand! And we can’t wait for you to experience it.
Sauna and bathing culture are ancient traditions in many parts of the world, and they’re definitely catching on here in the United States. You don’t need any experience — just curiosity and an open mind.
Once you arrive, we’ll take care of you — walking you through how everything works, what to expect, and how to listen to your body along the way, so you feel completely comfortable before you settle in. Heat, then cold, then rest — it’s a rhythm your body already knows how to do.
Come as you are, go at your own pace. We’ve got you.
-
It’s recommended to shower before your session — you’re welcome to do this at home before you arrive, or use our shower on-site. You’re also welcome to shower afterward to rinse off and ease back into your day.
It’s also a good idea to avoid eating a heavy meal right before your visit. Staying hydrated beforehand helps too.
-
Our sauna typically runs between 160–190°F, with a thermometer inside to show the current heat and humidity.
It’s normal for the heat to feel intense at first — that’s part of the experience! If it ever feels like too much, you’re welcome to sit on the lower bench where it’s cooler or step out for a break.
We are always available for guidance. Or to adjust the temperature up or down.
-
When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into our sauna lounge — a sheltered, three-season space that’s yours for the duration of your visit, with access to a private bathroom and warm shower. From there, one of us will walk you out to the sauna studio and outdoor rest area.
